Voicemail after 5 pm loses the job. Here’s what to use instead.
Voicemail records a call. It doesn't win the job. An after-hours answering service that books the caller in means you wake up to jobs in your calendar, not callbacks.

A WhatsApp AI chatbot that only answers questions leaves the job where it found it. For a service business, the chat has to end in a booked slot, a record and a named person.

A message that ends in a booking.
It is 8:40 on a Tuesday night. A homeowner sends your business a WhatsApp. The water heater is leaking. Can someone come Thursday, and roughly what will it cost? A WhatsApp AI chatbot replies within seconds. It gives your hours, a price range from your website, and a polite line about calling in the morning.
The homeowner says thanks. By the time anyone opens the phone at 7:30, they have messaged two other companies, and one of them offered a time. Nothing went wrong in that chat. The chatbot did exactly what it was built to do. It just was not built to book.
It answers the questions you have already written down. Meta now offers one inside the WhatsApp Business app, called Meta Business Agent. You train it on your business profile, catalog and website, and it answers questions about hours, locations and pricing. WhatsApp’s Help Center describes it as a limited-availability service, as of September 2026.
For a business that gets a handful of messages a week, that may be enough. It stops at the edge of the chat. It has no diary to offer Thursday from. It keeps no record your team works from. The conversation is the only thing left when it ends.
Answered by hand, that message waits 10 hours and 50 minutes for a reply, and the booking still needs a phone call. Conversation AI replies in under a minute and leaves a booking, a record and a person who can pick it up.
Conversation AI in Income Mavericks runs on your WhatsApp number, connected to WhatsApp inside the same system as your calendar and contacts. Take the Tuesday message again. It answers the leak question from what you gave it. Then it offers Thursday at ten, because it reads your actual calendar and can see ten is free.
That matters more than it sounds. It books from the same calendar your team uses. It will not offer a slot somebody took by phone an hour earlier. The booking lands in the diary. The homeowner gets a contact record, and the whole chat is filed against it.
Some questions need judgment, like a price that depends on seeing the job. Those it hands to a person on your team. It can also send a follow-up when a lead reads the reply and goes quiet. That is a choice made at setup, not something it does by default.
A chat that ends without a booking is a lead somebody now has to remember.
That gap between answering a lead and catching one is where most leads go cold. The reply was never the hard part. Knowing what happened after it is.
In Income Mavericks it is a Conversation AI bot with WhatsApp as its channel. Pick the appointment booking template, train it on your website and common questions, and choose the calendar it books into. Test it in the built-in chat before it answers customers. Our setup guide for Conversation AI walks through each screen.
Three parts. The WhatsApp add-on in Income Mavericks is a monthly fee, the AI replies carry a charge, and Meta bills its own per-message fees. The total depends on how many messages you handle. Our usage costs calculator works it out for your numbers.
Not if it books from your real calendar. It checks the same calendar your team uses and only offers slots that are still open.

None of this is clever. The reply was always going to be automatic. What matters is that the diary and the record sit where the reply happens. Then a Tuesday-night message is a Thursday booking by morning.

An AI employee handles the first minute of a conversation. It books, answers and logs. What it cannot do is judge an exception, and that is worth knowing before you buy one.
