Follow-ups as tasks, not memory

Tasks created in Todoist when something needs a person rather than an automation.

Fig. 01 — What changes
Today

You promise to call somebody back on Thursday and write nothing down, because you are on a site with your hands full. Thursday goes past. On Friday they call somebody else.

Connected
When somebody needs a call back Income Mavericks opens your list with the task on the day it is due, with their details on it
What it connects

The gap it closes

Some things cannot be handled by a system. Ring them back. Look at the photos before quoting. Check whether the part arrived. Those land in your head during a call and stay there until you forget one, and the client who was promised a call back on Thursday works out on Friday that you did not. Your list is where you already put things you have to do yourself.

Connect it and the business puts them there for you, on the day they are due — and ticking one off is what starts whatever was waiting on it.

Where it fits

Reach for this when the person doing the work is also the person remembering it. There is no board anybody opens. The system is one list on a phone, and what gets dropped is the promise made out loud.

What it does once connected

What stops being your job

01

Promises land on your list

The call back, the quote to follow up, the part to chase. Written down where you already look, on the day it matters.

02

Ticking it off does the rest

Marking a task done starts what was waiting behind it. The confirmation, the next reminder, the note on their record.

03

Nothing new to open

No board, no second login, no dashboard somebody has to keep current. Your list is the list, and it fills itself.

In practice

Watch one go through

One job going through, start to finish, with nobody watching it. The steps are what this connection actually does; the times beside them are illustrative.

Questions

What people ask

What does this cover?

Creating a task and giving it a day. Updating one, moving it, marking it done, and leaving a comment on it. It can make a project and find a task or project you already have. That is the scope.

What kinds of things end up on the list?

The parts that need a person. Call this one back. Look at their photos before quoting. Chase the supplier. Anything the business cannot finish on its own gets written down for you. It stops sitting in your head until it falls out.

What happens when I tick something off?

Completing a task starts the next step. The client gets the confirmation, the record is updated, the follow-up reminder stops. You tick one box on your phone and the admin behind it is handled.

Can it set a deadline?

It can set the day a task is due, which is how a list like this is meant to work. You see it on the right day among everything else you owe somebody. The task carries who it is about, so you are not hunting for the context.

I work alone. Is this worth connecting?

That is who it is for. With no team and no board, the whole system is one list and your memory. Memory is the part that breaks on a busy week. This puts the business's half onto the list you already trust.
